Where to Buy the Novium Hoverpen

Where to Buy the Hoverpen and how to avoid Counterfeits | Novium - novium

Where to buy the Hoverpen: direct from Novium at noviumdesign.com, from the Novium Store on Amazon, or in store at a small number of retailers supplied directly by Novium. Those are the places Novium supplies. Anything else is a reseller Novium does not control.

Novium has released three Hoverpens. Not four. There is no Pro, no Max, no 4.0. If a listing offers you something outside that set, something is wrong with the listing.

Here is where to buy, and what to check before you spend.

Where can you buy an authentic Hoverpen?

Novium sells directly through its own website and has its own Amazon storefront. A small number of retailers are also supplied directly by Novium and carry the Hoverpen in store.

noviumdesign.com, the official store

The Novium website is the primary channel and the only one that carries the full range.

  • Every edition and every colorway, including the higher tiers that never reach marketplaces or retail shelves
  • Custom engraving, on the pen body from 40 units and on the pedestal base from 100 units
  • Free shipping, dispatched within one to three business days from the US warehouse
  • Novium's product warranty, honored directly
  • 100-day returns across the US and select regions

The Novium Store on Amazon

Novium directly operates a storefront on Amazon. Buying there is buying from Novium.

The distinction that matters on Amazon is the seller, not the product title. Anyone can write "Novium Hoverpen" into a listing title. Check the Sold by field beneath the buy box: it should read Novium. If it reads anything else, you are buying from a third party, and Novium cannot vouch for what arrives.

Retailers

If you want to see a Hoverpen in person before buying, these museum and institution stores are supplied directly by Novium in the United States.

  • The Huntington Store, at the Huntington Library, Art Museum, and Botanical Gardens in San Marino, California
  • The New York Public Library Shop, at the Stephen A. Schwarzman Building in New York
  • The MIT Museum Store, at the Gambrill Center in Kendall Square, Cambridge, Massachusetts

These are curated design and museum retailers, not general stationery stock. Range is narrower than the Novium website and availability varies by location, so call ahead if you are making a trip for a specific model or colorway.

What about eBay, AliExpress, Temu, and marketplace resellers?

Novium does not supply these channels. Some listings there are genuine units resold by individuals. Others are not genuine at all. From the listing page you cannot reliably tell which, and neither can we.

If you are unsure whether a particular retailer is supplied by Novium, ask us before you buy rather than after.

For a Hoverpen specifically, three things ride on where you buy.

1. Warranty. Novium's warranty applies to units Novium sold. A unit from an unverified seller may have no coverage at all.

2. Magnetic tolerance. The Hoverpen balances on a magnetic field, not a socket. The hover angle holds because the machining and the magnet are matched to within a tolerance. Copy the concept without the tolerance and the pen sags, drifts, or falls.

3. Refills. Genuine Hoverpens take German-engineered Schmidt refills, an industry-standard. Click here for Hoverpen refills for each model.

Novium has released exactly three Hoverpens

Three models. Each hovers at a different fixed angle. That angle is the fastest identifier there is.

Model Hover angle Pen type From
Hoverpen Classic 90° Ballpoint $72
Hoverpen Interstellar 23.5° Ballpoint $99
Hoverpen Future 60° Fountain / rollerball 2-in-1 $159

Above those sit a small number of premium configurations, all sold only by Novium: the Interstellar in 18K gold plate at $129, the Interstellar with an embedded meteorite shard at $399, and the Future with an 18K solid gold nib at $699.

All three are CNC-machined from a single block of aerospace-grade 6061 aluminum, then hand-finished in Taiwan across more than 100 fabrication processes. The Interstellar was named to TIME's Best Inventions of 2022. If you are choosing between nib types, our guide to ballpoint, rollerball and fountain pens covers the differences.

What about "Hoverpen 1.0, 2.0, and 3.0"?

Those names are real, just retired. They are the original Kickstarter-era names for the same three pens: 1.0 became the Classic, 2.0 became the Interstellar, 3.0 became the Future. A seller using the old numbering is dated, not necessarily dishonest. A seller using a number above 3.0 is neither.

Model names that do not exist

Novium has never released a Hoverpen Pro, Ultra, Max, Elite, Mini, or 4.0. If you see one, the listing was written by someone who has never handled the product.

Frequently asked questions

Does Novium sell on Amazon?

Yes. Novium directly operates a storefront on Amazon. Check the Sold by field beneath the buy box before you order and confirm the seller is Novium itself, because third-party sellers can write Novium's name into a listing title without being Novium.

Can I buy a Hoverpen in store?

Yes, at a small number of US retailers supplied directly by Novium: The Huntington Store in San Marino, the New York Public Library Shop in New York, and the MIT Museum Store in Cambridge. Range is narrower than the Novium website, so call ahead if you want a specific model or colorway.

How much should a real Hoverpen cost?

A Hoverpen Classic starts at $72, a Hoverpen Interstellar at $99, and a Hoverpen Future at $159. Premium configurations run to $129 for the 18K gold-plated Interstellar, $399 for the meteorite edition, and $699 for the Future with an 18K solid gold nib.

How many Hoverpen models are there?

Three. The Hoverpen Classic, the Hoverpen Interstellar, and the Hoverpen Future. Any other model name is not a Novium product.

How do I know my Hoverpen is genuine?

Check three things: Novium branding on the pen, the pedestal, and the box; a hover angle of exactly 90°, 23.5°, or 60°; and a model name that is Classic, Interstellar, or Future. All three should hold.

Buy the original

Novium engineered the hovering pen, and Novium is the only place it comes from. Three models, each hovering at its own angle, each machined from a single block of aluminum and finished by hand in Taiwan. If you are buying for someone else, the Hoverpen gift sets are a good place to start.
