Taipei, Taiwan — Novium, the creators of the Hoverpen, awarded TIME Best Inventions of 2022, proudly unveils their latest premium option: the Hoverpen Interstellar Meteorite Edition. The new edition sets an authentic shard of the Muonionalusta meteorite — a fragment roughly 4.5 billion years old, nearly as old as the solar system — into the tip of Novium's flagship, the Hoverpen Interstellar. Hand-inlaid by artisans in Taiwan, it is limited to a few pieces per week.

What is the Hoverpen Interstellar Meteorite edition?
The Hoverpen Interstellar Meteorite is a limited edition of Novium's flagship pen with roughly one gram of genuine Muonionalusta meteorite embedded in its ballpoint pen barrel. It hovers at a precise 23.5° angle on a precision magnetic field, writes with an international-standard D1 Schmidt refill, and arrives with a numbered Certificate of Authenticity. Same core engineering as the standard Interstellar. One rare addition that can't be manufactured, only found.
How old is the Muonionalusta meteorite?
The Muonionalusta meteorite is approximately 4.5 billion years old — nearly as old as the solar system itself. Lead-isotope dating of the meteorite's troilite places its formation at roughly 4.57 billion years, a figure reported in Earth and Planetary Science Letters, making it likely the oldest object you will ever touch.
Its story is almost as improbable as its age. About a million years ago the Muonionalusta entered Earth's atmosphere, shattered, and scattered across northern Sweden and Finland. Glaciers carried the fragments through four ice ages. The first piece wasn't discovered until 1906, near the Muonio River that gives the meteorite its name. What survived that journey is what Novium sets into each pen: a piece of the early solar system, worked down and fitted by hand.
What is the Widmanstätten pattern?
The Widmanstätten pattern is a fine crosshatch of interlocking metallic bands, unique to iron meteorites, that appears when a shard is cut and etched. It forms only one way: an iron-nickel alloy cooling roughly one degree every million years in the vacuum of space.
That process cannot be reproduced on Earth, and no two fragments carry the same lines. Every Meteorite Hoverpen is therefore one of one — its grain set by a cooling process that finished before life on Earth began.

How is the Hoverpen Interstellar made?
The Hoverpen Interstellar is CNC-machined from a single block of forged aerospace-grade 6061 aluminum, hand-finished with a scratch-resistant anodized coating, and built across 103 fabrication processes over 548 days of development. A meteorite deserves a mount worthy of it, and this luxury pen is built to the tolerances of the thing it carries.
It balances on a precision-calibrated magnetic pedestal — no battery, no electronics, no cord. Lift it, spin it, set it back. The 23.5° hover holds indefinitely. Wonder on the surface. Precision underneath.

Hand-inlaid in Taiwan, a few per week
Rarity here isn't a marketing number. It's a production limit. Novium's master artisans start with ten grams of raw meteorite and work it down to the single gram that fits the barrel cleanly. Each shard is hand-inlaid, inspected, and matched to a numbered card. The process is slow enough that only a few pens leave the workshop each week. When a batch is gone, it's gone.
The gift for space and astronomy lovers
The Hoverpen Interstellar Meteorite is a genuine piece of space, which makes it a rare find among gifts for space lovers who already own the theme — the nebula print, the model rocket, the mug with a planet on it. This one hands them the real thing.
It works because it's useful, not just symbolic. It's a pen they'll write with and a fragment of the early solar system they'll own, sitting on the desk as functional art. For a milestone birthday, a retirement, or a graduation into a first serious office, few space gifts for adults carry the same weight — literally billions of years of it. For the astronomy lover or the STEM-minded professional, it's a gift that rewards a second look.

Frequently asked questions
What is the Novium Hoverpen Meteorite Edition?
The Novium Hoverpen Meteorite Edition is a limited edition of the Hoverpen Interstellar with about one gram of authentic Muonionalusta meteorite — roughly 4.5 billion years old — hand-inlaid into its aerospace-grade aluminum barrel.
How old is the meteorite in the pen?
About 4.5 billion years. The Muonionalusta meteorite formed close to the birth of the solar system, making it likely the oldest object you'll ever hold.
How much does the Hoverpen Interstellar Meteorite cost?
It's priced at $399 USD, in stock and shipping within one to three business days.
How much meteorite is in the pen?
About one gram of genuine Muonionalusta meteorite. Novium starts with ten grams and works it down to one for the perfect fit.
Is the Hoverpen refillable?
Yes. It uses the international-standard D1 ballpoint refill, and a spare ships in the box.
Does the pedestal need electricity?
No. The Hoverpen does not need battery, power or any sort of electricity or power.
Will the magnet weaken over time?
No, provided the pedestal isn't stored above 80°C (176°F). The magnetic force holds indefinitely under normal conditions.

Availability
The Hoverpen Interstellar Meteorite Embedded is available now in Space Black at $399 USD, exclusively at the Hoverpen Interstellar Meteorite product page.
